Ever since I began hosting the infp list I've felt a bit uncomfortable with the blog being the main page for ambertides.org. The fact that members call it, and label it in their address books, "ambertides" or "the ambertides list" and then having ambertides.org lead directly here seemed misleading. This blog and The List have nothing to do with each other besides sharing server space. So the idea of a splash page has been bouncing in the back of my head for a while, but I hadn't been in the brainspace to mess with anything web-related. Today I was, and voilà, splash page.
Kindly redirect blog links and RSS feeds.
I've also removed the music and health blogs (from the links here, anyway). We're still on hold with infertility treatments and we're focusing on home ownership right now, and juggling the two isn't something we're looking to do. So it's on hold for the foreseeable future, leaving nothing to blog about. Any music blogging I care to do, I've been doing on last.fm, so the music blog seemed superfluous. Our online music archive can still be found at the same spot if you've got the user name and password (if you don't, and want access let me know and I'll assign you one).
Lastly, I'm vacillating between starting a knitting blog and just spamming this one with knitting gab. It might be until I get my ravelry invite that I come to a decision. I'm not sure how much of what I want to share will be covered by that (18,250 ahead of me - sob!).
I have several posts on the brain, and a lot of things going on lately. Hopefully something share-worthy will surface shortly.
There were just too many sales today to resist, but my credit card is crying.
First we went into K-Mart to grab Shawn a pair or two of work pants. Those weren't really on sale, but they were having an "everything clearance is 50% off" thing so we ended up getting 3 work shirts and a pair of shorts that would've been $62 for $20 instead of a second pair of pants.
Then we went to Lane Bryant at Westshore. I've been hearing, and hearing, and hearing about the new Right Fit jeans. I've needed new jeans for quite some time. My body has been doing some serious rearranging the past several months and I don't really have much of anything that's casual to leave the house in. So I'd been to the site plugging my measurements in and wanting and wondering... and noticing the amazing 3 pairs for $60 sale was ending soon.
Finally this weekend I was determined to try them on before the sale was over. I'd been told by previous try-er on-ers to size down and the website popped me as a 9 or a 10 (9 in the waist, 10 in the hips -- that was a worry, too), and they didn't have petites higher than 8. So basically I was just crossing my fingers that they were right and an 8 would fit. I haven't been able to buy jeans in an LB... in too many years to count. If hip size wasn't an issue then height was. But I walked in there, grabbed the 8 Blue petite flares, and they fit wonderfully! I tried the bootcuts and they weren't great, but I've always preferred flares anyway. Unfortunately the store only had one pair, so I had to use their LB2ME program (the other two pairs are shipped to my home for no charge). I really, really wish they'd had more choice in color, but they'll fade anyway (trust me, I plan on wearing them to death!).
I know these jeans don't work for everyone -- I've heard a lot of complaints, but I think they are worth a try, especially for pear/squash shaped girls, and especially before Tuesday when the sale ends. I have never, ever worn a comfier pair of jeans. Ever. In fact, I think with my extreme waist to hip ratio, I'm not sure I've ever had a pair of jeans that actually fit without just standing up in the air around my waist. Though I could say these aren't perfect. The legs do drag on the ground, even as petites.
So I walked out with one amazing pair of jeans and two more on the way. But no real shirts that I'd want to wear with them, and in need of some wedges so I don't trip over the legs. I figured I'd sort it... at some point.
But then we went to Target for some groceries and while Shawn was off doing his own thing I was bored so I peeked at the girly clothes. And found the perfect t-shirts to wear with them. For $6.98 each. Cool! I grabbed them and got ready to leave. And then I saw... this shirt. I'd just been drooling over this one on Lane Bryant's website this morning and sternly telling myself that I'm too cheap for a $35 shirt that probably wouldn't fit my hips anyway (LB's shirts never do). But getting something that similar for ... $10.48 on sale was just impossible to pass up (without major whining anyway). And it's green. And my favorite shade of green. And sleeveless, which I prefer anyway.
That solves everything but the shoes (and needing all new top and bottom undies), which I'll live without for now. I do have a pair of wedges, they're just really old and really uncomfy. Eventually I'll get these.
All in all we spent about $130 for four pairs of pants, a pair of shorts, and seven shirts. I don't think I'd do much better at Goodwill, even if I could ever find anything my size at thrift stores.
